Meet the Instructors

Scott
Instructor
Scott began his journey in Taekwondo in 1990 and achieved remarkable success in 1996 winning the British Championships, he also competed at the European championships for England where he secured 3rd place bronze medal. In recent years Scott has received multiple awards for his dedication to martial arts and teaching.

Jo
Instructor
Jo has been coaching alongside Scott since 2000 when she gained her black belt. She also runs a women’s exercise class, online fitness group and is a fully qualified Level 3 PT and Exercise Referral Specialist.

Phil
Instructor
Phil started his Taekwondo journey in 1987 earning his red tag in 1990. After a long break from Taekwondo he made a comeback 10 years ago in 2014 and then achieving his 2nd dan in 2016. Phil has been teaching at Steel City Martial Arts since gaining his 1st dan, and his commitments to the club have had a lasting impact on the students.

Ellie
Instructor
Ellie has been doing Taekwondo since she was born, showcasing her talent by competing across the country since the age of 7. Ellie has won multiple competitions, including winning bronze at the age of 8 in the under 16’s division of the highest flying side kick. She earned her black belt alongside phil in 2016 and went on to her 2nd dan in 2018. In 2024 she was awarded the top martial artist award, and has taken on the role of teaching the younger students sharing her passion for the martial art with them.

Sammie
Instructor
Sammie started her Taekwondo journey with Scott alongside Joanne in 1998 and got her black belt in 2002 and 2nd Dan in 2003. She has also competed in competitions and has a degree in Sports Development and Coaching.
Meet the Assistant Coaches

Harry
Assistant Coach
Harry is one of our assistant coaches, he started Taekwondo in 2020 and got his black belt in 2024. Harry has also represented England and won a British title and bronze medal at the wold championships in Vienna.

Flo
Assistant Coach
Flo started with us in 2017 when she was just 5 years old. She has been a dedicated member of Steel City Martial Arts ever since. Flo has overcome injuries along the way and finally earned her much deserved black belt in 2024. Flo was keen to become an assistant coach showing her dedication to Steel City Martial Arts.

Esme
Assistant Coach
Esme started at Steel City Martial Arts in 2021 and has been to every session ever since gaining her black belt last year in 2024. Esme is now an assistant coach for the club and has a bright future in martial arts ahead of her.
